Technologies / good Agricultural Practices / facilities / Benefits obtained with details

Improving yield in Carp culture by maintaining plankton density and colour. The secret of the success behind the trial is that the Pond filling within 7-10days and development of plankton colour at the earliest by using organic fertilizers, super phosphate, cow dung juice. The technology helps in increasing the yield and also to decrease the culture duration with low FCR

Factors contributing to success

Improving yield in Carp culture by maintaining plankton density and colour.

Pond filling within 7-10days and development of plankton colour at the earliest by using organic fertilizers, super phosphate, cow dung juice.

Stocking appropriate aged year old stunted fingerlings in rearing ponds

The technology helps in increasing the yield and also to decrease the culture duration with low FCR

Following Better Management Practices (BMP)  such as  -

Proper site selection.

Proper design and construction of ponds.

Appropriate pond preparation

such as liming, fertilization.

Proper seed selection.

Maintaining optimum water quality parameters.

Sharing common water resources and also water conservation methods.

Maintaining better disease management practices.

Maintaining proper harvest and post - harvest practices.

17.

Any other relevant information

The success of the Carp culture mainly depends on the seed quality. Many of the fish  farmers are neglecting the pond fertilization through cow dung / poultry manure / pig manure and unable to develop the plankton colour and density at right time. Moreover some of the farmers are unable to fill the pond and develop the plankton within 10 days and leads to the incidence of filamentous algal problems.
