Krishi Vigyan Kendra is one of the Major Extension Wings established by the ICAR with main objective being the transfer of technology to farmers, farm women and rural youth related to Agriculture, Horticulture, Aquaculture and allied fields. Therefore firstly the Re-mandatedKrishi Vigyan Kendra was established during September, 1999 under NATP at Zonal Agricultural Research Station, Nellore, Andhra Pradesh state under the Acharya N.G.Ranga Agricultural  University. The Re-mandated KVK was converged into full  pledged KVK with effect from 1st April, 2004.


Unique Features of KVK:

  • KVKs are Farm Science Centers (taking science to society)

  • KVKs have multidisciplinary team of scientists (team work)

  • KVKs have strong technology support from their host institute (technology push)

  • KVKs have effective functional linkages/collaboration with other developmentagencies/organizations (collaboration and linkages)

  • The very rural location of KVKs enhances accessibility of farmers (Rural Orientation). Hence, KVKs must be empowered.

 Current Activities:

  • Organizing vocational training for the representative of the farmers groups in agriculture and allied enterprises.

  • Conducting On-Farm Research in Farming Systems perspective involving Crops,  Horticulture, Livestock, Fisheries etc.

  • Conducting  Front Line Demonstrations on Major cereals, Oil Seeds and Pulses and other enterprises related to Agriculture.

  • Conducting In-service training of field level officials.

  • Conducting Command Area Development Programme / with 125 FFS in WUAs of Nellore district.

 Mandates of KVK :


As per ICAR guidelines KVK is having following mandates for implementing its activities :



Collaborate with the Subject Matter Specialists of the State Agricultural Universities / Scientists of the Regional Research Stations (NARP) and the State Extension Personnel in the On Farm Testing, refining and documenting technologies for developing region-specific sustainable land-use system.



Organize training to update the extension personnel within the area of operation with emerging advances in agricultural research on regular basis.



Organize long-term vocational training courses in agriculture and allied vocations for rural youths with emphasis on Learning by doing for generating self-employment through institutional financing.



Organize Front Line Demonstrations in (Oil seeds and Pulses) crops to generate production date and feedback information.
