Assessment of the performance of Paddy var. NLR – 3041 in Nellore district (1st Year)
In Nellore area, farmers are going for variety BPT-5204 from years due its cooking quality and market price but it is highly susceptible to blast hence Assessment of the performance Paddy var. NLR – 3041 was done as it is having same cooking quality as BPT 5204 and tolerant to blast. This trail was carried out in 6 locations at Rajuvolupadu, Veerampally and chennareddypalli village. Now crop is at panicle emergence stage. No incidence of blast is observed in both BPT 5204 and NLR - 3041.

Evaluation of Organic package on yield in Paddy (1st year)
On Farm Trial was conducted at 6 locations at A.S. Pet, Woodhousepet and Ramalingapuram to test the effect of organic Package (FYM@ 4t/ac, Green manure: Dhaincha incorporation (seed rate@ 12 kg/ac), Application of vermicompost@ 1t/ac, Azospirillum @2kg/ac ( In 2 equal split doses, 1 kg as basal, 1 kg 10-12 DAT), PSB @ 2kg/ac (in 2 equal split doses, 1 kg as basal, 1 kg 10-12 DAT), Neem cake @ 200 kg/ac (in 2 equal split doses) Neem oil/NSKE 0.5%,Pseudomonas florescence @ 5 gm/lt) on yield in Paddy. Crop is at maturity stage. At vegetative stage there was a noticeable difference in organic method (less growth and light green foliage) when compared to inorganic method (lavish vegetative growth and dark green foliage).
TRIAL No .3/OFT/C.P/18-19/ R/KVK/NLR
Assessment of the performance of Greengram var. WGG – 42 (1st Year)
This trail was carried out at 6 locations at Biradavolu and Kalyanapuram. Objective of the trail is to test the performance of WGG 42 which is short duration and resistant to YMV disease against local popular variety LGG 460. WGG 42 grown with dense foliage and recorded average plant height as 69.9 cm while in local variety LGG 460 it was 42 cm. On an average compared to local variety LGG 460, WGG 42 recorded more pods / plant (27), pod length (7.37 cm) and number of seed per pod (10). It was been observed that this variety WGG 42 yielded 27.59 % higher than the local variety LGG 460. While B:C ratio was 2.18 in WGG 42 variety compared to LGG 460 where it was recorded as 1.69 only.
TRIAL No.4/OFT/C.P/18-19/ R/ KVK/NLR
Fertilizer management in Paddy (1st Year)
This trail was taken up with an objective to optimization of fertilizer use, reduction of cost of cultivation, high net returns and can avoid over dosing of fertilizers and it’s hazardous after effects like micronutrient deficiency and environmental pollution. Trail was plotted in 6 locations at chavatapalem village. There was no significant difference observed in no of hills / m2 (36) in trail compared to control (38). Crop is at grain hardening stage.
PLANT PROTECTION
Trial: 1/OFT/PP/18-19/Summer/KVK/NLR
Mass trapping technique for the management of Pink boll worm in Cotton (Summer)
In Nellore, Pink boll worm continues its life cycle in summer cultivated cotton crop and causes heavy infestation in neighboring districts in following seasons during kharif. In this trial 30 pheromone traps will be erected per acre when the crop is at 45 days to Mass trap the adult moths. Present crop is at 30-40 days after sowing. Pheromone traps will be erected during March fourth week in five locations at Talakurupadu and Chennareddy garipalem.
Trial: 2/OFT/PP/18-19/Rabi/KVK/NLR
Integrated management of Fusarium wilt in water melon
Wilt in early stages causes huge loss to water melon farmers. An integrated approach with Trichoderma harzianum application and subsequent chemical management was adopted at five locations in Kalluru village of DV satram Mandal. After one week of sowing, wilt incidence of 34.78% was observed in control plot in contrast to 8.16% of wilt incidence in IDM adopted plot. Similarly after 4 weeks, 29.2% wilt in control was recorded whereas 7.20% of wilt incidence was noticed in IDM adopted plot. Watermelon fruit wise yield in trial plot recorded to be 27.7 tons/ha compared to 20.35 tons/ha in control plot. An increase of 36.44% in the yield was obtained by adopting IDM measures.
Trial: 3/OFT/PP/18-19/Year round/KVK/NLR
Stem injection for management of Fusarium wilt in banana
Fusarium wilt or panama wilt causes huge revenue loss to Banana growers especially in rasthali variety. Pseudostem injection with 0.1% Carbendazim at initial satges of establishmentof plants proved to be effective. This trial was undertaken in five locations in Veguru, Leguntapadu villages. Plantation was done in October with Sucker treatment. First and second pesudostem injections were done to three (In December) and five months (February) old plants respectively. So far, No wilt was observed in both control plots and treated plots. The subsequent stem injections will be done at nine months and eleven months and wilting percentage will berecorded.
Trial: 4/OFT/PP/18-19/Year round/KVK/NLR
Evaluation of field performance of NLR-3354 variety for Blast resistance
BPT-5204 is still popular variety grown in rabi season many parts of Nellore district inspite of its susceptibility to pests and diseases. NLR-3354 developed at ARS, Nellore is a fine variety characteristically photoinsensitive, short duration and resistant to blast and tolerant to BPH infestataion. This trial was taken up to see the field performance of NLR-3354 to Blast resistance and to calculate cost economics for further demonstrations. The trail was conducted in Chennareddyvaripalem, Amancharlav villages of Podalkur mandal. Crop is at milking stage to grain filling stage. In BPT-5204, Percent disease severity was recorded as 20.92% and 29.36% at Tillering and Panicle initiation stages respectively after taking four sprays of Tricylazole. Whereas in NLR-3354 Variety, 2.11% and 3.58% of Blast severity at Tillering and Panicle initiation stages respectively without any sprays of Tricylazole.

OFT 1: Use of protective clothing while spraying pesticides. |
Conducted at 5 different locations at Gilakapadu village in horticulture crops. PC blended and starch treated fabrics were used for protective clothing, which has minimum pesticide penetration. So protective clothing (Mask, helmet, apron and glowses) are protecting the spray men from harmful pesticide residues which otherwise penetrate into the human skin. So farmers felt it is practicable and safe to health.
