Evaluation of Organic package on yield and Pest Management in Rice (Rabi)

On Farm Trial was conducted at KVK adopted villages, Rajuvolupadu and Chavatapalem to test the effect of organic method of paddy cultivation on yield and pest incidence by using farm yard manure, neem cake, vermicompost, green manuring of sunnhemp, Azospirillum, Phosphorus solubilizing bacteria. Present crop is in grain hardening stage. There is high incidence of leaf folder, Blast and Brown Plant Hopper was noticed.

Ecological Engineering for BPH control in Rice (Rabi)

On Farm Trial was conducted at KVK adapted village, Rajuvolupaduto reduce the incidence of BPH by sowing of scented crops like Cowpea, Marigold, Sesame, Mustard and Coriander on rice field bunds. Crop is in grain hardening stage. incidence of BPH was observed during panicle emergence and milking stage.Incidence was relatively higher than field with pesticide management

 

Mass trapping technique for the management of Pink boll worm in  Cotton(Summer)

In Nellore, Pink boll worm continues its life cycle from summer and cause losses during kharif. In this trial 30 pheromone traps will be erected per acre when the crop is at 45 days to control adults.Present crop is at 45-60 daysafter sowing. Pheromone traps were erectedduring March first week but no incidence of pink boll worm noticed yet.

 Assessing the performance of Marigold variety Arka Bangara 2

 

The trail was conducted in three locations viz., Veguru, Leguntapadu and Itampadu villages Nellore dt. Five cuttings were done in Arka Bangara 2 and Four cuttings were done in Yellow maxima as on 20.03.2018. More no.of flowers per plant recorded in Arka Bangara 2     (75 Nos.) than Yellow maxima (64 Nos.). Maximum flower weight (15.02 g) was recorded in Arka Bangara 2 than Yellow maxima (12.89 g). Crop is still harvesting stage.

The cost benefit ratios were 1: 3.13and 1:1.76respectively

Evaluation of Vannamei growth rate at different pond depths

Trials conducted at 5 locations showed that the optimum pond depths ranging between 5-6ft. in Vannamei culture has shown 38.14 % higher yields (1758 kg/acre) over the farmers practice (1273 kg/acre) i.e. at 3.5 – 4.0 ft. pond depths with C:B ratios 1:1.798 and 1: 1.502 respectively.

The results of frontline demonstrations at 30 locations during rabi indicated that there was a 13.52 % increase in yield (806 Kg/ha) in LBG-752 variety sown plots when compared to other varieties LBG-645 (710 Kg/ha). The cost benefit ratios were 1:2.66and   1:1.71respectively

Dry root rot management in Acid lime

The results of the Demonstrations conducted at 10 locations during 2014-15 indicated that there was 12.71% increase in demonstration plot (1454 fruits/tree) compared to farmers practice (1290 fruits/tree).  The cost benefit ratios were 1: 2.45 & 1:2.08 respectively.

During the year 2015-16 FLD on Dry root rot management in Acid lime conducted at 10 locations. Now crop is fruit development stage.

Management of hoppers in mango:

The results of front line demonstrations on Management of hoppers in mango at 10 locations during the year 2014-15 indicated that there was a 26.45 % increase in yield in treatment withSpraying of Thiamethoxam 5g/20 lit of water at panicle emergence stage and Profenophos 2 ml/lit 21 DAFS (11.65t/ha) when compared with farmer practice (9.21t/ha). The cost benefit ratios were 1:4.34 and 1:3.33 respectively.

During the year 2015-16 FLD on Management of hopper in mango conducted at 10 locations. Now crop is fruit development stage.

Popularization of minerals supplementation in Vannamei ponds for improving survival rate and yield as well as for reducing the culture duration.

Demos conducted at ten locations showed that the minerals supplementation (15 kg/1lakh seed) in Vannamei ponds has shown 34.35 % higher yield (2014 kg/acre compared to the farmers practice (1507 kg /acre) with C:B ratios 1: 1.67 & 1: 1.36 respectivel

Management intervention to reduce the health risk factors and cost of production in Vannamei farming

Demos conducted at ten locations showed that the stocking SPF seed and using water and soil probiotics along with following the Better Management Practices (BMP) in Vannamei culture has given 32.06 % higher yield (1869 kg/acre) over the farmers practice (1418 kg/acre) with C:B ratios 1.694 & 1.411 respectively.

Conducted demonstrations at selected locations in Indukurupeta mandal, Devispeta village. In demonstration plot,  9 labour employed/ acre for weeding operation with wheel hoe in different horticulture crops, whereas with the traditional weeders  18 labour employed/ acre for weeding operation within 5 days. The farm women felt less drudgery  while weeding in different crops with Wheel hoe

Demo 2 Stem application through modified applicator for drudgery reduction

Conducted at 10 different locations. In demonstration plot,  3  labour employed/ acre for stem application in cotton for sucking pest management, whereas for spraying of chemicals with sprayers  8 labour employed/ acre till 60 days after sowing involving 2400/- per acre in spray method and 900/- per acre in stem application method.

The results of the trial conducted at 5 locations indicated that there was a slight increase in yield (4.8%) when compared to transplanted rice but there is increase in cost benefit ratio (1:2.22) with regard to Drum seeder method of sowing when compared to normal planting method (1:1.64).

Assessment of 2005 T-16 sugarcane variety resistant to Red Rot in Nellore district

 

The results of the trial conducted at 5 locations indicated that there is 3.95 % increase in yield when compared to farmer’s practice (117.65 t/ha).  The cost benefit ratios were 1:4.36 1:4.69 respectively.

The results of On farm trial onManagement of panicle mite in Rice during Early Kharifat 5 locations indicated low incidence of panicle mite and  yield of 5665  kg / ha was recorded with 2.8 % increase yield over Normal practice (5512   kg / ha).  The cost benefit ratios of trial and check were 1:2.10 and 1:2.02 respectively.

Shoot and fruit borer management in Brinjal   

 

The results of on farm trail in Brinjal at 5 locations during kharif indicated that there was a 15.16 % increase in yield (32.97t/ha) in treatment with (spraying of neem oil 5 ml/lit, use of pheromone traps and Rynaxypyr 0.3 ml/lit) when compared with farmer practice (28.64 t/ha). The cost benefit ratios were 1:3.08 and 1:2.67 respectively.

The results of on farm trail in Water melon at 5 locations during rabi indicated that there was a 14.46 % increase in yield (29.82 t/ha) in treatment with (spraying of neem oil 5 ml/lit and thiamethoxam 0.3 g/lit) when compared with farmer practice (26.11t/ha). The cost benefit ratios were 1:2.42 and 1:2.07respectively.

FISHERIES

Trials conducted at 5 locations shown that the balanced formulated pelleted diet in Carp culture has shown 28.5% higher yields (6822 kg/ha) over the farmers practice (5320kg/ha) i.e. with mash feed with C:B ratios 1:1.49 and 1:1.31 respectively.

The results of on farm trail in Brinjal at 5 locations during kharif indicated that there was a 15.85 % increase in yield (30.72 t/ha) in treatment with (spraying of neem oil 5 ml/lit, use of pheromone traps and Emamectn benzoate 0.29 g/lit) when compared with farmers practice (26.54 t/ha). The cost benefit ratios were 1:2.84 and 1:2.22 respectively.

The results of on farm trail in Water melon at 5 locations during rabi indicated that there was a 12.84 % increase in yield (30.58 t/ha) in treatment with (spraying of neem oil 5 ml/lit and thiamethoxam 0.3 g/lit)when compared with farmers  practice (27.11 t/ha). The cost benefit ratios were 1:1.28 and 1:1.13 respectively

Standardization of Vannamei stocking density with aerators and without aerators at small and marginal farmers level                                                                                      

The results in 5 locations of trials indicate that the stocking SPF seed and using  water and soil probiotics  along with aerators (T2) has shown 55.47% average increased yield (4275kg /ha) over the farmers practice i.e. without aerators- T1 (2750 kg/ha) with C:B ratios 1:2.67, 1:1.42 respectively.

Introduction of Roopchand as an alternate species for Carp culture                                                                                        

The trial was not practiced in any of the farmers of the Nellore district and is only carried in College of Fishery Science, Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University, Muthukur, under a research study programme; at present the average body weight (ABW) is around 600 gm More over farmers are attracted by the higher market price of the Vannamei and hence even in lower Salinities (1-5 ppt) farmers are opting for the Vannamei culture and no one has stocked any Roopchand fish in Nellore district, because of the above reason the trial winded up.

OFT 1: Use of protective clothing while spraying pesticides. 

 

Conducted at 5 different locations at Gilakapadu village in horticulture crops. PC blended and starch treated fabrics were used for protective clothing, which has minimum pesticide penetration. So protective clothing (Mask, helmet, apron and glowses) are protecting the spray men from harmful pesticide residues which otherwise penetrate into the human skin. So farmers felt it is practicable and safe to health.

Integrated Nutrient Management in Acid lime 

 

The results of front line demonstrations on INM in Acid lime at 5 locations during the year 2012-13 indicated that there was  10.73 % increase in yield in treatment with INM (1448 fruits/tree) when compared with farmers practice (1300 fruits/tree). The cost benefit ratios were 1:2.30 and 1:1.99 respectively.

During the year 2013-14 FLD on INM in Acid lime conducted at 10 locations. Now crop is fruiting stage.  Harvestings are in progress.                                

 

FISHERIES 

 

 

TRIAL.1/FLD/FISHERIES/13-14/KVK/NLR 

 

Popularization of stocking weight group of above 200 gm Carp fingerlings in stocking ponds which are reared in rearing ponds for improving yield and for reducing culture duration.

                                  

Trials conducted at ten locations shown that stocking a weight group of above 200 gm Carp fingerlings in stocking ponds which are reared in rearing ponds has shown 35.0% higher yield (7280 kg / ha) compared to the farmers practice (5344 kg /ha) with C.B ratios 1:2.62 & 1:1.48 respectively.                                                                                                                                                                               

 

TRIAL.2/FLD/FISHERIES/13-14/KVK/NL

 

Management intervention to reduce the health risk factors and cost of production in Vannamei farming.

 

Trials conducted at ten locations shown that the stocking SPF seed and using water and soil probiotics in Vennamei culture has given18.22% higher yield (5050 kg/ha) over the farmers practice (4275 kg/ha) with C.B ratios 1:2.51 & 1:1.43 respectively.                                                               

 

HOME SCIENCE

 

 

FLD:1. Introduction of Vanaraja birds as back yard poultry 

 

This front line demonstration was conducted at Ramachandrapuram and Vavveru villages with 10 beneficiaries. Distributed 10 vanaraja chicks (20 days old chicks) to the each beneficiary. Now the birds are at egg laying stage                                                                                                                                                

 

FLD : 2. Supplementary Nutrition for Children

 

Supplementary food containing mainly Raagi flour were distributed to 6 children of Grade – II and four children of Grade - I from 2 villages at Rapur mandal. After six months 5 children were at Grade I and five children were at nearly to normal weight.
